Hello,
My name is Katelynn Smith and I am a Senior Public Relations Student at the wonderful University of Oklahoma. My interests are diverse. I love to play golf, hang out with my family and friends, be involved in any PR events, and also spend time at my sorority Delta Gamma. However, my main activity that I love to do in my free time is dance. I have danced for several years and it is truly something I am passionate about!
I also love to travel and I wish I could do it more often, however, I have that whole I'm a poor college student eating Ramen Noodles for dinner thing going for me, so I don't get to travel very often. I have traveled in the past before though. After I graduated high school, my parents moved to Ireland. I went over to Ireland for Christmas twice and then traveled a little bit throughout Europe. I have also been to Turks and Caicos with one of my friends and her family, however that is the extent of my travels. Now that I am writing this, I guess I have traveled more than most, but to me it's not enough. My goal in life is to visit every continent, including Antarctica!
A fun fact about me is that I went skydiving last year!
That's just a little bit about me. I am very random, and spastic. You can probably tell that by the way I write. If you would like to know anything else about me, feel free to ask! I am an open book.
With that, I will leave you with my favorite quote. "In 20 years you will be more upset by the things you didn't do, than the things you did". ~Unknown
Peace and Blessings
Katelynn Smith
Hello, we're in the same group this week, so here's my first comment for the weekend. I'm a wannabe traveler as well, so that's cool to hear of the places you want to go. It also sounds like you have a busy schedule, but this is your last year, right? It should be over soon. Anyway, I hope to read more stuff throughout the semester!
ReplyDeleteA fellow dancer! I would love to know what kinds of dance you do! I am not much of a traveler but I have always wanted to visit Ireland and a few other places in Europe. I actually have been to Japan before and it was pretty great! Since you are a traveler I would highly recommend it, especially for the food! Oh my gosh, you have to try the ramen there. It is AMAZING. I lived in Utsunomiya for most of the trip then the last three days I was in Tokyo. I also visited Harajuku, that was a lot of fun! I can't wait to read more of your posts!
ReplyDeleteWhat a great quote, Katelynn! As you can guess from the proverb posters in the class announcements, I love proverbs and sayings and words of wisdom... they are a part of the folklore tradition of the world too! And if you want to visit every continent, you can use this class as a way to visit several continents by way of stories... and you know, now I am feeling bad that Australia is not part of the UnTextbook... but of course you could choose to do your Storybook on an Australian topic, just to add it to your list! If you're curious, you can find some fantastic Australian story collections here: Sacred Texts: Australia. :-)
ReplyDeleteI think that you did a really good job of explaining a lot about yourself in just a short amount of writing so great job! I also really enjoy playing golf and played all of high school so that is a fun common interest! Dance is also something that is very near and dear to my heart as I have done it for over 15 years, it is just so relaxing and really helps me refocus! What kind of dance is your favorite?!
ReplyDeleteHi Katelynn! I think it’s super cool that you are a PR major too and you’re not even the first one I’ve found in this class! Also, I went skydiving over the summer as well! Did you love it? I thought it was great! I can definitely relate to having travel plans outside of my current means, but hopefully we’ll both be able to make it around one day.
ReplyDeleteHey! I have also traveled some through Europe as well as Australia and New Zealand. All of the different customs that each different nation has is crazy. I also really like the quote that you added to the end of your introduction. I feel like people should live life through memories made and not by material things. I know a girl named Haleigh Yancey who is a DG, I wonder if you know her as well. Anyways, I hope you are able to travel everywhere you want to!
ReplyDeleteKatelynn, it was great getting to know a little about you in this introduction! A few things jumped out at me: I love that you are so passionate about dance; it is always such a wonderful thing to have at least one hobby that you wholly enjoy simply for the sake of the activity. I also am intrigued by the places that you've traveled to! It seems a little cliche, but I have always wanted to backpack across Europe, and Ireland is definitely somewhere that people rave about because of its beauty. I hope you fulfill your goal of going to all the continents someday!
ReplyDeleteI can follow along with you completely because I am also spastic in my thoughts and translate that to my writing. I find when I write that I will write two sentences for about 10 different random paragraphs and then have to go back and elaborate on what I was saying before because my mind is just jumping all around. I love that you are passionate about traveling! I think that traveling teaches us more about ourselves than anything else. I have never been to Turks and Caicos but it looks gorgeous! My family is definitely a beach family and we always travel to beaches. If you get the chance, you should visit the Domincan Republic or Rio de Janiero. Both beaches are gorgeous and the people are so fun and energetic.
ReplyDeleteKatelynn,
ReplyDeleteWhat kind of dancing do you do? I am in a belly dancing class right now and I love it! And, I used to golf with my dad. I also love to travel, but I have to agree with the whole "broke college student" thing. I have only been out of the country once for a family vacation to the Dominican Republic. It is beautiful and pretty cheap. You should go! I have always wanted to visit Ireland. Can't wait to (maybe) travel there some day!

Katelynn,
ReplyDeleteI have traveled to quite a few places, but I have never been to Ireland or Turks & Caicos. I am SO jealous. Ireland is one of the places at the top of my list that I must travel to someday. I am actually considering studying abroad there this summer for the month of July. I also have dance experience. I danced from the age of two all the way to junior year of high school! I guess I got kind of burned out, but it is so great that you love it! It is so nice to have a passion that you love. Good luck with school this semester!
It sounds to me like you've done some awesome traveling already! Ireland and Turks & Caicos are some pretty cool places to have visited. I know, though, that once you get a taste for traveling, it's hard to ever be satisfied. If you could go anywhere in the world tomorrow, where would you go? Anyways, good luck with everything!
ReplyDeleteThat is pretty awesome that your parents live in Ireland now since you will get to see a lot of Europe. At the same time, I guess it does put you a little too far from reach. I think it is cool that you want to travel so much and experience other cultures. I would agree on wanting to see every continent, but Antarctica is literally just a giant peace of ice.
ReplyDeleteHey Katelynn, it sounds to me like you enjoy living an exciting life. I am so impressed that you went skydiving!! That's crazy! I can only imagine that it would have been fun and terrifying. It would be so cool if on your PR journey you were able to travel the world as well! Good luck with the rest of your endeavors!
ReplyDeleteHi Katelynn! I love to travel as well and it just never seems like you get the chance to go enough places. I got to go to Australia with the Navy but other than that I've stayed within the country. Skydiving sounds amazing! I'm pretty sure I could never get myself to actually jump out of a plane but I'm glad you've had these opportunities in your life. Congrats on your upcoming graduation!
ReplyDeleteKatelynn, I am a senior PR student as well!! How cool - and so exciting we are so close to graduating! Hopefully I survive PR Campaigns and I will!
ReplyDeleteI also think it is so cool you have been skydiving. I just do not have the guts to do something like that, but maybe one day I will work up the courage. But I certainly have similar desires as you do to travel! I love visiting new and exotic locations.
Well I wish you the best of luck in all your courses this semester! I look forward to reading your work!
Hello Katelynn! I also love to play golf. I picked up the sport a couple of summers ago and I thoroughly enjoy it now. I have wanted to go skydiving for a while but I also have that I am a poor college student lifestyle. Your traveling sounds great. I have only ever been to the Caribbean but that is kind of child's play compared to you. I really like your quote as well. Missed opportunities can become upsetting as time goes on. It was nice to get to know you more and I wish you the best with the rest of the semester!
ReplyDeleteHi, Katelynn!
ReplyDeleteIt’s so nice to get to read and learn a little bit more about you! I also share your love for dance. I started dancing when I was two and was very upset when my days in the studio came to an end once I graduated high school. I really do miss it every single day! Even though I’ll go out dancing with my friends sometimes, it just isn’t the same as the countless hours I would spend in the studio. Anyways, it was nice to “meet” you!
